TISP

TISP (Teacher-In-Service Program) is functioning as a professional seminar for teachers and professors, so they can incorporate fun and exploratory lessons, from the engineers\’ perspective. The program\’s goal is the educators\’  encouragement  for using this methodology and collaborating with IEEE volunteers, while the ultimate target is the development of the students\’ skills, so they can become better professionals  and be able to explore the technical career options (in this case, the mechanic\’s). IEEE Student Branch of the University of Applied Sciences of Western Macedonia, has successfully organized 3 TISP, in collaboration with the advisors of the Kastoria\’s Primary Education Management. The first TISP took place in the 2nd Students Council of Primary Education on the 27th March 2017, where about 40 students, parents and teachers gathered and the scenario «Rubber Band Racers» (http://tryengineering.org/lesson-plans/rubber-band-racers), was carried out. Finally, there was a presentation of the teams\’ constructions. The 2nd TISP took at the 10th Primary School, Chloi, Kastoria, on the 13th of October 2017, during classes. After communicating with the school\’s principal, Mr. Maslari and school advisor Elena Zigouri, 20 more or less students and 12 teachers participated and with the help of the members of our Student Branch, they completed the scenario «Build a Big Wheel» (http://tryengineering.org/lesson-plans/build-big-wheel). Finally, there was a presentation about every teams\’ constructions. After the presentation the kids were dismissed, so they could continue their classes and the teachers stayed for the presentations of the school advisor and the members of our Student Branch, about STEM and TISP. The 3rd and last TISP was held by IEEE Student Branch at the 1st Primary School, Maniaki, Kastoria, on the 20th of October 2017, during class hours. After communicating with the school\’s principal Mrs. Della and the school advisor Aliki Katzaridou, 28 students of fifth grade, along with 12 teachers and with the guidance of the members of our Student Branch, the scenario «Build a Big Wheel» (http://tryengineering.org/lesson-plans/build-big-wheel), was completed, just like with the 10th Primary School, Chloi. At the end, as always, there was a presentation about the teams\’ constructions, after that the students were dismissed, so they could continue with their classes, the presentation about TISP and STEM was held by the school advisor and the Student Branch. At the near future, there are going to be 3 TISP, in collaboration with the Secondary Education management, Samos, where the scenarios «Rubber Band Racers» and «Networks» (tryengineering.org/lesson-plans/networks) will be carried out, next in collaboration with the 9th Primary School, Chloi, Kastoria, at 16 November 2017, another TISP will take place.
