Who we are

This website is run by the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Western Macedonia, Kastoria (Department of Informatics, Fourka Area, 52100 Kastoria, Greece). It is hosted on servers of the TNDlab – Telecommunications, Networks, and Distributed Systems Laboratory, Department of Informatics, University of Western Macedonia.

Data controller

Christos Hitiris — chchytiris@uowm.gr. For general questions you can also write to ieeesbkastoria@uowm.gr.

What data we collect and why

  • Contact form. When you send us a message we receive your name, e-mail address, subject and message. We use them only to reply to you. The message is delivered by e-mail to the Student Branch and is not stored in the website’s database. We keep the e-mail only for as long as needed to handle your request.
  • Server logs. Like every web server, the server records technical information for each visit (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser). These logs are kept by the hosting laboratory for the security and operation of the service, for a limited period.
  • We do not use advertising tools, and we do not sell or share your data with third parties. For website statistics we use Google Analytics, only with your consent (see below).

Cookies

  • pll_language — remembers the language you chose (English / Greek). It is necessary for the site to work and is kept for up to one year.
  • _ga, _ga_* — Google Analytics cookies, set only after you accept analytics cookies; kept for up to 2 years.
  • Embedded content from other websites. Some articles include YouTube videos and the Contact page includes a Google Maps map. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited the other website: YouTube and Google may collect data about you, set cookies and track your interaction with the embedded content. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Members of the team who log in to manage the site receive the standard WordPress login cookies.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (through the Site Kit by Google plugin) to understand how the website is used: which pages are visited, how visitors find us (e.g. search, social media), and the type of device, browser and country. We use these figures only in aggregate, to improve the site and our activities.

Google Analytics runs only if you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner. Google Signals is disabled, we do not use the data for advertising, and the data is kept for 14 months. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time from the cookie settings icon at the bottom of the page. More information: How Google uses data from sites that use its services.

Links to other websites

Our articles link to other websites (IEEE, the University, partners). We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, contact the data controller above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (www.dpa.gr).
