We are very happy to announce that IEEE Student Branch University of Western Macedonia, Kastoria, for the second consecutive year received the IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award 2019.
IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award is one of the most important awards given every year at the IEEE student branches globally, to those who have achieved the Institute\’s goals by using technology for benefiting humanity. For accomplishing these goals, the Student Branch held technological activities for promoting new technologies for the students of the department of Informatics, aw well as for the local community. This past year, activities with themes such as New Technologies, like 5th Generation Networks, Internet of Things and Smart Cities, Cloud Computing Applications and Modern Internet Technologies, were organized.
Important were also the Educational Activities, that our Student Branch are organizing for the past three years, in collaboration with Coordinators Educational Act, Mrs Elena Zigouri (Primary Education, Kastoria) and Mr. Dimitris Tzimas (Informatics Act) of the Education\’s Regional Management of Western Macedonia to schools all over Greece.
The formation of Women in Engineering was also extremely important, which has the goal, for the women engineers as well as for the women in Western Macedonia, of promoting the Women Engineer in technology, the update on new technologies and the creation of activities and stimuli that are going to help in developing technological skills.
For this award we would like to thank the University of Western Macedonia (former Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia), the department of Informatics and our Counselor, professor Aggelos Michalas, who has been with us all these years, supporting our actions. Finally, we would like to thank the board and the members of our Student Branch, who with their willingness and their actions, have been the driving force for national distinction.
