Kastoria Linux Society is one of the oldest activities of the Department of Computer Science of the University of Western Macedonia, started its activities in 2011 and since 2012 it is an integral part of our IEEE Student Branch. The aim of this action is to bring students in contact with Free Software and open source software (LibreOffice, NextCloud, etc), Linux distributions (Ubuntu, openSUSE, etc), open hardware (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc). The group has made collaborations with many Free Software communities both on a national and global level promoting actions of Ubuntu, openSUSE, Nextcloud, Owncloud, Libreoffice, Openoffice, OnlyOffice and many others. In addition, our team has been present in events such as Athens Makers Mini Faire and FOSSCOMM in 2012, receiving the best opinions for its actions, and in 2020 organizing FOSSCOMM online with great success (https://www.youtube.com/@Fosscomm-xf9sz/featured). It also maintains a long term cooperation relationship with EL/LAC (https://ellak.gr/) supporting both its actions and promoting Free and Open Source Software in Kastoria and Western Macedonia in general.
