MUSEUM IN A SUITCASE

We gladly accepted the invitation and challenge to create a historical tool, an application for smart phones that will function as a place to store, preserve and utilize historical issues that are in danger of being lost in the oblivion of modern historical memory.

The challenge for us was to put the matter of the memory of the lost Jewish community of Kastoria in the frame of the official historical memory of the city through a smart application, with which we can bridge digital technology and its applications to formulate with a new stigma the preservation and rescue of such an important for the economic and social, therefore cultural identity of the city of Kastoria. The urban Kastoria as we used to say.

We accepted the invitation and challenge of Mrs.Zorpidou and we are pleased to present you the results of our work, bringing to life the memory of a suitcase that comes from the past to narrate a forgotten but so important history of the city we study, the lost Jewish Community of Kastoria.

This application is our answer to the question, can we combine new technologies with the sciences that have as their subject the preservation of the past.

It is a first application that certainly has a lot of room for development, we have laid a foundation to prove that we have an answer to the challenge of the times and for this we would like to thank Mrs.Zorpidou for giving us the opportunity to deal with such an interesting and important issue called digital culture.

At this point we would also like to thank the team of the summer schools of the organization “Action for Atonement and Peace” who provided us with valuable information for the first experiential history project developed in 2016 and 2017, as well as Dimitris Kostaras, without his supervision and organization of communication with the team of volunteers of the summer school 2017 it would not have been possible to implement the application.

We also thank Mr Papadamianos, president of the Centre for Jewish Heritage Studies of Kastoria, who offered the educational material from his archive for the implementation of the educational objectives and undertook the publication of the flyer included in the application.

And finally, we thank our professor Mr. Michala Angelos for trusting us with this collaboration and supporting us in this effort once again.

For questions and clarifications we are at your disposal. Thank you for using our application and please send us your opinion about this application.
