SmartLab

SmartLab — The SmartLab model of our laboratory, with the keypad and display of the access system

Can a laboratory monitor itself? SmartLab started in 2018 with this question. The team built a physical model of our laboratory and turned it into a small smart building.

What it does

Using Arduino Uno and Arduino Mega boards, the model measures:

  • temperature and humidity,
  • carbon dioxide (CO₂), carbon monoxide (CO) and methane,
  • light levels,
  • noise, with a decibel meter.

It also includes an access and security management system and a smart lighting system.

From SmartLab to Smart Campus

SmartLab was one of our Branch’s milestone projects. The ideas it tested — sensors in every room, automatic detection of problems, energy-aware lighting — grew into Smart Campus, our current IoT network for the university’s classrooms.
