In the spring semester of 2022, our Programming Team set out to learn Python properly — not just the language, but the tools developers use every day, such as Replit and JetBrains PyCharm. The team split into two groups, each with its own project.
Project 1: A sensor dashboard on Raspberry Pi
The first group built a Python desktop application with a graphical user interface that reads temperature and humidity from a DHT11 sensor connected to a Raspberry Pi 4 and displays the measurements in real time.
Project 2: Programming for many cores
The second group studied parallel programming: running code on more than one CPU core and comparing performance against single-core execution.
Both projects were presented at IEEE Day 2022. Several team members went on to compete in IEEEXtreme 17.0 a year later.
