Class & Reservation: room booking for the Kastoria Campus

Class & Reservation: room booking for the Kastoria Campus

Confusing timetables and double-booked rooms are now a thing of the past. To make everyday life on campus more organised, the IEEE Student Branch team developed Class & Reservation, a web platform for finding and booking available classrooms and labs on the Kastoria Campus.

How it works

The platform separates users into roles. Professors and the secretariat have full control: they create bookings with course, date, room and time, edit or cancel them, and can add a booking to their personal Google Calendar. Students see availability in real time, without being able to change anything.

All bookings appear on a dynamic calendar by day, week or month, so it is immediately clear whether a room is free. Search finds a course or a room quickly. The application also has sign-up and log-in, a page with information about the Departments on campus, Greek and English, a background image and dark mode, and works equally well on desktop and mobile.

Technologies

The frontend is written in React.js with Material UI v4 (Material Dashboard), React-Bootstrap and FullCalendar v6 for the calendar. The backend is a RESTful API in Express.js on an Apache Web Server, with a MySQL database. User sign-up and log-in use the Better-Auth library, and the whole application is deployed quickly with Docker Compose.

The team

The project was built by Panagiota Taxiarchi, Andromachi Kotopouli, Kosmas Katsis and Giorgos Kokkinos.

What’s next

Class & Reservation was presented at IEEE Day 2026. It is designed so that it can be extended to the other campuses of the University of Western Macedonia.
