Commencement of cooperation with the company EPIC GAMES for the free granting of annual licenses for the full use of the game development platform UNREAL ENGINE 4

As of today, the cooperation of the Department of Informatics Engineering of the TEI of Western Macedonia with the company EPIC Games within the framework of the Unreal Engine 4 academic program ( https://www.unrealengine.com/blog/unreal-engine- 4-goes-free-for-academic-use ). As part of this partnership, a free annual subscription (up to 200 students per year) will be provided on the Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) platform, which allows students / developers to join a community dedicated to the development of advanced games. It is noted that those who are not members of our academic community will have to pay EPIC Games a monthly fee of US $ 19 to have full access to the Unreal Engine 4 platform.

Under this agreement, you can access the Unreal Engine 4 platform as a whole, ie the complete suite of integrated tools, features and the entire C ++ source code, which includes code for the Unreal Editor and all tools . You will also have full access to technical support and official documentation (documentation, tutorials), as well as a large volume of free UE4 content (free templates, sample games, complete projects).

Attention is drawn to the increased demands of the UE4 platform on computer systems resources. Specifically, requires Windows 7 64-bit, or Mac OS X 10.9.2, or later, quad-core Intel or AMD quad-core processor at 2.5 GHz or faster, NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX or AMD Radeon 6870 HD series or higher , at least 8 GB RAM and 10 Gb available hard drive capacity. For UE4 support for Linux distributions, see here: https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Linux_Support and here: https://www.unrealengine.com/blog/unreal-engine-4-and-linux

Interested students must be in the 4th semester of study (or higher) and have successfully passed the courses Programming I (I + E) and Programming II (I + E). Exceptionally, licenses will be granted to students who have not successfully completed the above courses, but can prove that they are involved in the development of advanced electronic games. Free annual licenses will be distributed in order of priority.

Interested students should send a relevant message to the responsible Professor of Applications, Mr. Nikolaou Spyros (s.nikolaou@kastoria.teikoz.gr) on \”Unreal Engine 4 code request\”. The message should indicate the name, semester and registration number of the student concerned, as well as the respective grades in the courses Programming I  and Programming II. Once the application is approved, a message will be sent immediately with the code of the free annual full license of the Unreal Engine 4 platform, as well as instructions for registration in the UE4 service and its installation.

We warmly thank the company EPIC Games for its offer.
