The IEEE Student Branch of the University of Western Macedonia, Kastoria has received the IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award. The award, for our 2025 activities, was presented at the IEEE Region 8 Student and Young Professional (SYP) Congress 2026, held in Kraków, Poland, from 20 to 24 July 2026.
The Branch was represented by its Chair, Giannis Kepas, a final-year student of the Department of Informatics, who accepted the award on behalf of the whole team. At the congress we also presented a poster on our activities, projects and the involvement of our members.
About the award
IEEE presents it to student branches with exemplary operation and real value for their members: technical workshops and seminars, skill development for students, and the promotion of technology.
A fifth distinction
Our Branch has received the award for 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023 and 2025.
The SYP Congress
It is the largest gathering of IEEE students and young professionals in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Region 8), with opportunities for networking, exchanging ideas and training.
