The IEEE Student Branch Western Macedonia, University of Applied Sciences, in Kastoria, in collaboration with the Cretan Students Association of Kastoria, the Pontian Students Association, the Communications Center of the Department of Biodiversity, Culture and Environment of the county of Kastoria “The melody of the heart”, organized voluntary blood donation on Tuesday 20 November 2018 from 9:00 to 14:00 at the Library of the University of Western Macedonia in Kastoria.
According to the World Health Organization, Greece is ranked in the 60 countries in the world that cannot meet their blood needs autonomously and we import paid blood from Switzerland in order to meet our country’s needs.
Blood donation is an act of love and proof of social sensitivity. It is a gift of life and practical solidarity. Our goal is to raise our students’ awareness as well as to help our fellow human beings with a beautiful and simple act. And because it is said that “A minute is enough to save a life”, our goal was reached, as in the blood donation came about 50 people, 38 of whom donated blood, which is a very satisfactory amount.
At this point, we would like to thank all of you who supported this effort by coming to donate blood so we will be able the upcoming days to help those who are in need.
We would also like to thank the Blood, Culture and Environment Association of the county of Kastoria “The melody of the heart” which supported us through this effort, as well as the Cretan Students Association of Kastoria and the Pontian Students Association of Kastoria. In addition, we would like to thank the Communication Team of the Department of Digital Media and Communication for their help in the organization of the event.
Finally, we would like to thank particularly Mr. Sakis Bourtsos who let us use the library for the event.
